Mark S. Posted March 11, 2021 Report Posted March 11, 2021 All, I know this is very limited info, but does anyone have any initial thoughts or opinions of authenticity? Thanks, Mark Quote
Mark S. Posted March 11, 2021 Author Report Posted March 11, 2021 One more. Even if authentic, this is probably a run of the mill NCO. I know nothing about them. Quote
Shamsy Posted March 11, 2021 Report Posted March 11, 2021 As you have already deduced, it is a run of the mill sword. Looks like someone sneezed when stamping the second 2 on the blade! Should be matching numbers on the saya throat but hard to make out in the pictures. Iijima subcontractor, pattern 2, pretty early in the run. Much nicer bohi than you typically find, but I think Iijima have one of the most varied runs in quality fluctuations. Not been pulled apart has it? The saya has been repainted. You can see the original paint on the throat and around the top of the saya. Looks to be period but not 'original'. I'll add it to my thread as yet another example to support my hypothesis. 1 1 Quote
Mark S. Posted March 11, 2021 Author Report Posted March 11, 2021 For sale locally. Don't want to jump on something not worth it. An estimated value? Quote

People are asking $800 to $1,500 on fleabay. I haven't kept up with current pricing, but in good condition, they sell for $1,000-1,200 pretty much. Quote
