Kurikata Posted March 10, 2021 Report Posted March 10, 2021 Hi, I was wandering what was this design? and any idea of a school would be a plus. Thank you Quote
Spartancrest Posted March 12, 2021 Report Posted March 12, 2021 Nata - hatchet knife - Or Kama - sickle with the plants ready to cut , other examples by Yamakichibei http://www.shibuiswords.com/tsuba.htm#yamakichibei . The serrated edge of the sukashi may represent the hamon of the blade as seen in the colour image 3 1 Quote
Kurikata Posted March 12, 2021 Author Report Posted March 12, 2021 Thank you Grev & Dale . Makes sense ! Quote
FlorianB Posted March 12, 2021 Report Posted March 12, 2021 An appealling design of a gardening scene on a rainy day. The flower ornament looks like a peony (jp.: botan). Similar forms on an Akasaka-piece: Concerning school and age - IMHO maybe Myochin, middle to late Edo-period. Florian 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted March 13, 2021 Report Posted March 13, 2021 Bruno I like the vertical lines through the guard, do you think it might mean gardening in the rain? Florian is likely correct about it being Myochin - the references to Yamakichibei above is only in relation to the Nata design, yours is clearly not by that school. Quote
