Antonis Posted March 7, 2021 Report Posted March 7, 2021 katana Hello, I'm in need of some help identifying whether these fittings are Edo, Meiji or even real real to be honest. My father had bought this sword years ago. they told him that it was a composite sword made up of parts from deferent swords from thee do period. the blade itself is made from aluminium so I know that its not real but I'm still curious on if the sword mounts, scabbard and tsuba are authentic or modern copies. The handle has a consistent motif of ducks but the tsuba and scabbard have Sakura blossom designs. The scabbard is lacured with some areas of cracking and has a shell inlay of a cherry blossom with petals. Anyway this is all the info I can offer so sorry if it's not that helpful... thanks in advance, Antonis Quote
Kurikata Posted March 7, 2021 Report Posted March 7, 2021 Modern tsuba and poor level quality fichi/kashira/menuki. Saya looks modern too. Quote
Spartancrest Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 Hi Antonis These sites sell very similar Iaito (居合刀) modern metal practice swords, without a cutting edge, used primarily for practicing Iaido. https://www.seidoshop.com/products/tsuba-umebachi-sukashi-t063?_pos=64&_sid=cfd38143b&_ss=r https://www.seidoshop.com/products/iaito-jisei-mizutori-koshirae-js103?_pos=110&_sid=cfd38143b&_ss=r The guard on your example is like that found here. https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/8092474309071042/ [Sorry for the picture quality]. Antonis Posted March 8, 2021 Author Report Posted March 8, 2021 Thank you both for your feed back! I was honestly expecting that the fittings would be fake but I hoped that at least something on it was at least Meiji. at least now I know that they are modern. I will be posting a tsuba to get some opinions on it soon so hope you can check that out as well. best wishes, Antonis Quote
