I don't understand the obsession with cutting paper.  It's like watching someone gut a Lamborghini because he thinks it should work like a tractor.

It seems the replies are encouraging him to continue. Gaibu-sha to the rescue? (fully unsure of the correct usage but i was looking for a multiple of gaijin^).

Most people (even iaidoka) do not understand what “sharp” means in the context of a Japanese sword. It’s totally different than what one needs to cleanly slice paper. That’s not what the blade was made to do!

 

The katana especially requires a proper profile but that marriage of form and function must align with body mechanics and, dare I say, the right state of mind. 
 

Sigh.

It’s very strange that he would damage something he paid so much money to get. I guess he’s akin to American collectors who “polish” rare coins with steel wool because they think it looks better with surface damage instead of tarnish.
