Pter Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 Hi all, I am a newcomer to Japanese swords and not very knowledgeable. I have recently came across this sword. At first sight, it looks like a type 94 although I can be completely wrong. But the things that puzzle me the most are the number in the habaki and what looks like a chinese seal in the nakago. I have tried to look it up but to no avail. Not sure even if it is the true thing or a fake. Any help? I can include more photos if requested. Thanks in advance. Quote
Bazza Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 I reckon it has all the hallmarks of a fake... BaZZa. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 They're getting the kissaki right finally, sadly. The Type 94s are almost always pretty high quaility, yet this one has a poorly made habaki (with hallmark Chinese numbering), painted kabutogane, poor quality seppa and fit, and poor detail on the fuchi. I've seen a couple recently with this Tosho script stamp, but not aware of anyone using such a stamp in the Japanese sword making world (other that one shop making early Type 19s) Quote
paul griff Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 Hello, Agree...100% fake.....Not the worst out there and with a bit of fine tuning would be ok for someone who cannot afford the genuine item... Regards, Paul.. 1 Quote
vfc Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 Looks like a few are getting around this one sold recently at auction at a huge price, Blade does not even have a hamon 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 Scary how the fakes are getting better. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted March 2, 2021 Report Posted March 2, 2021 Looks like same shop. Different numbers, same Tosho script, same Type94 fittings. Quote
Dave R Posted March 2, 2021 Report Posted March 2, 2021 Still making some of the same old mistakes thankfully! 1 Quote
