dhusker Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 My tanto is finished thanks to Randy Black. Please make any comments to help me evaluate it....I know the mei is probably gimei, but maybe not. Quote
Jacques Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Hi, About the signature, i think you must not dream, the nakago is far from looking like those of Muramasa (shodai, nidai, sandai). Quote
dhusker Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 Hi, About the signature, i think you must not dream, the nakago is far from looking like those of Muramasa (shodai, nidai, sandai). You are right of course, but at my age all I can do is hope and dream   All the wishing aside, this is my favorite blade, however, I only own 3. Quote
IanB Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Dan, Your tanto looks delightful - congatulations. I am pleased to see that you have not had the gimei removed. It is part of the blade's history and should be preserved. Ian Bottomley Quote
dhusker Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Thank you for the reply. Is it possible to determine with any certainty who the maker might have been? Can a blade with a gimei be submitted to shinsa? Thanks Quote
Guido Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Can a blade with a gimei be submitted to shinsa?Submitted, yes, but it will fail because of it. The NBTHK will just fail it, the NTHK will pink-slip it, but they may give you an indication about its maker. In any case not worth the money. Quote
dhusker Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Thanks. My health willing, I will attend the Chicago show this spring. Do you think it is possible to have experts make an educated guess as to the maker? Thanks again. Quote
Guido Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Define "experts" . Yes, I think with blade in hand some of the attendees will be able to give you a quite educated guess. Quote
sencho Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Define "experts" . Well an "Ex" is a 'has been', and a "Spurt" is a 'drip under pressure'...!! cheers! Quote
