Munetsugu Posted February 23, 2021 Report Posted February 23, 2021 Afternoon Another one of my recent acquisitions. I bought this from a good friend I've met local to me and its my favourite piece out of my collection even out of all my soft metal tsubas.. I love the design and the lovely crisp carvings😎 thought I'd share it incase anyone was interested in sunagawa pieces😁 Would be interested to hear if anyone has any information on the Smith or tsuba. Cheers 5 1 1 Quote

Kurikata Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 What lovey tsuba you have Chuck! Sunagawa Masayoshi is referenced in Haynes with ID H4798. Your tsuba signature is: 松柏堂砂川正吉 - Shohakudo Sunagawa Masayoshi Kao - Made by Masayoshi from Sunagawa Please refer to this thread on NMB forum : Quote
Kanenaga Posted February 25, 2021 Report Posted February 25, 2021 Forgive my ignorance, but what is the theme of this tsuba? Quote
MauroP Posted February 25, 2021 Report Posted February 25, 2021 Should be pieces of a Korean armour Quote
Spartancrest Posted February 28, 2021 Report Posted February 28, 2021 I found this guard of the same design, though in a simple maru shape sold by Christies in 2007 https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-three-bushu-tsuba-a-choshu-tsuba-a-4870264 SUNAGAWA MASAYOSHI - The auction description as -" helmets, armor and roof tiles" would be overstating the roof tiles as there are none. Korean armour and horse equipment would be my guess. Another same as the original posted example but this time with a partial signature as with the maru piece. http://world.seiyudo.com/product/tu-040519/ 75.8 mm x 72.9 mm x 4.6 mm Weight: 110G - must have been a popular design. The original guard appeared back in 2013 [Warning, one member has passed on since then ] Quote
