Ken-Hawaii Posted February 15, 2021 Report Posted February 15, 2021 This could have been a practice blade for a tosho's deshi. They are often destroyed like this. Quote
Stephen Posted February 15, 2021 Report Posted February 15, 2021 Why not? It was dead anyway. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 15, 2021 Report Posted February 15, 2021 Unfortunately not every sword is a treasure, perhaps it is better this was destroyed than continually burning new collectors with delusions of restoring it. 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted February 15, 2021 Report Posted February 15, 2021 it was a most likely wasa unlicensecd blade in Japan, found and the owners most likely count be bothered with the process of getting it registered. looking at it, most probably a kizu-uchi and not worth the polishing cost. heaps of this stuff coming out of Japan. go to the international forum markets in tokyo and there are always nakago for sale. $30 2 Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 "go to the international forum markets in tokyo and there are always nakago for sale. $30 " That sounds like the Oedo Nominoichi (Flea Market), between Yurakucho and Tokyo stations. 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, unless its raining (Sometimes on a Saturday, if clashes with events at the International Forum). 1 Quote
Brian Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 Flea markets. The thing I miss most about Japan. And enjoyed the most too. Amazing collections of assorted stuff. Mostly not cheap, but there are bargains too. Tsuba are expensive. I plan my trips around flea markets. And yes...lots of nakago, and especially lots of koshirae from destroyed blades, and yari poles from destroyed polearms. Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 Just saw this in my feed 4 Quote
JH Lee Posted February 16, 2021 Author Report Posted February 16, 2021 Hmm... wow. Ok. I learned something new. Still a bit concerned that this could encourage amateurs to break apart potentially significant blades that just needed some TLC. But the knife project was pretty neat, I admit. 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 The video is also a good example for an acid polish Quote
