mds308 Posted January 22, 2021 Report Posted January 22, 2021 I'm trying to buy this sword from a pawn shop. He's less cluless than I and I know very little. You guys helped me before and I need you again. I forgot to get measurements and I don't have the sword in hand. The signed damascus blade looks old but the handle looks much newer. The wrap looks professional. Perhaps a WWII officers family blade? I could use help with maker ID, age of blade, scabbard info and if possible, an approximate value range. Thank you for your time and your help. Quote
Jean Posted January 22, 2021 Report Posted January 22, 2021 CHINESE FAKE. RUN AWAY Here is a website, have a look at the swords, study them. Japanese swords have nothing to do with these Chinese junks. https://www.aoijapan.com Michael, study just a bit to be able to indentify the real thing. Otherwise..... 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted January 22, 2021 Report Posted January 22, 2021 This is as fake as they come. Do what Jean says, you'll save yourself a lot of time and money. Quote
mds308 Posted January 22, 2021 Author Report Posted January 22, 2021 Thanks guys. This is why I will seek help before shelling out the green. I really appreciate the help. I know he paid 150 when he bought it. I will pay zero. Thank you. 1 Quote
mds308 Posted January 22, 2021 Author Report Posted January 22, 2021 The quality looked sub par and the Tsuba looked like it was cast in kitty litter. I should have known better on my own but needed the extra push. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 23, 2021 Report Posted January 23, 2021 Brian listed this exact type blade in the Fake Blades post in the Gallery. Quote
Surfson Posted January 23, 2021 Report Posted January 23, 2021 Truly horrendous. You would do yourself a service to have a look at the articles about recognizing these fakes that have been posted on NMB. Quote
