Gentlemen

How often are kosira like this seen? i've only seen one other (not that i have a great amount of experience) just curious,

Not so common. I have seen one on Meiji period tourist tanto that has better silver work on the tsuka than its blade. However, yours looks better than the one I have seen. Mike

Charels, Hilts fitted with the central collar are not that uncommon. It is known as a dogane. Rather less common are metal plates that cover the faces of the hilt. Stone in his famous Glossary.... shows a pair of iron plates rather tastefully decorated. I have also seen somewhere an imitation of same done in gold.

A better picture of my tuska it is copper/brass/a bit of silver/and i think steel. it came on a wak i bought from aoi art sword
