Geraint
Dear All. Just one more to add to the record. I have seen one other of this design. (Sorry about the photographs.) I have often wondered about other fittings produced in Nagoya, the tanto that Chris posted seems to suggest that quite a lot of the fairly clunky fuchi kashira and kozuka that we see around might be from the same source. From what I have seen there is a variation in quality which is no surprise. All the best.

Spartancrest
Yet another pattern here - with matching fittings! https://www.jauce.com/auction/d480908604 It is a bit rough & ready.

Spartancrest
Sorry but I keep finding new patterns - this one has a large butterfly motif- https://www.jauce.com/auction/u416256778 The quality of this one looks great.
roger dundas
Yes, I quite like that one, but few of the others posted here. They are not something that particularly appeal to me but that is a very personal thing and of no importance to others. Roger j
Spartancrest
They still seem to go on forever - this one has a similar design of a fabric screen, as the one posted by Geraint above, but with no raised rim and maple leaves. https://www.jauce.com/auction/x756177582
Greg F
John I appreciate your thread and find it interesting as I bought these two when I started collecting and have seen many variations over the years and have been curious about them. They are obviously not high grade. The katana tsuba(flowers in basket) is heavy and measures at 80mm × 75mm. The Wakizashi tsuba was quite small but can't measure it as I gave it away. Thanks John and all.
Spartancrest
Whilst most of the examples previously shown are low grade pieces, those that follow are all mass produced fakes and should not be confused with them. https://www.jauce.com/auction/l595056282 https://www.jauce.com/auction/j641163853 https://www.jauce.com/auction/o378651664 https://www.jauce.com/auction/j641725546 https://www.jauce.com/auction/m406413727 https://www.jauce.com/auction/q351538692 https://www.jauce.com/auction/g407382117

Recently bought simply because it’s the best one of these I’ve ever seen. Probably at the top end of their quality spectrum? 3
Spartancrest
Nice one Colin, extra detailing on the butterfly wings. Heck of a lot of flowers in that design, no wonder the butterflies like them!

GRC
Ya, I used the Chinese name, shishi, for the lion dog. They originated as guardian symbols in Chinese Buddhism. I learned that association a long time ago so it’s what I default to. Anyway, that one struck me as more of a lion than a tiger.
