jeremy Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Hi guys, I just bought this shinshinto sword from Moses Becerra. Can anyone tell me anything about their ideas about this sword? Like the school or swordsmith that possibly could of forged it? Any information would be great. http://www.nihontoantiques.com/fss255.htm Kind regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
Grey Doffin Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Jeremy, Moses would be the one to ask that question; he knows more about the sword than any of us will be able to tell from the pictures. Grey Quote
jeremy Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Hi Grey, I thought about doing that, but I dont wanna waste his time asking those sorts of questions, and thought it would be an interesting topic to start. When I receive the sword in hand I will be trying to judge myself anyway. Thanks for your idea though. Kind regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
Brian Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Jeremy, As you know, Shinshinto are all that much more difficult to pin down to a school or smith as by that time they were copying styles, playing with different schools and generally not following set traits as much as Koto smiths or even Shinto smiths. I think it will be difficult to pin it down further unless it goes to shinsa. If Moses had any more info, I am sure he would have listed it. Nice looking sword though, enjoy it. Brian Quote
Jean Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Jeremy, Moses is a splendid guy who will gladly answer any of your question, I have already dealt with him and he even sent me a picture of his studio where he takes his blades' pictures Quote
Henry Wilson Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 I suggest you study it yourself and see what you come up with and when you feel you have learnt as much as you can ask Moses. I like the koshirae. Very shibui Quote
jeremy Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Hi guys, Thanks for all your replies. I thought it would be a bit harder with a shinshinto blade, but at least I gave it a try! Looks like I might have to put it through to shinsa when it comes to Australia in March 2009. Kind regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
Chris Osborne Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Hi Jeremy, Congratulations on your new sword. I just about jumped on that one myself a short time back but funds would not allow it unfortunately. Moses is a super guy and very knowledgeable, he would be most happy to answer any questions you might have about the blade or perhaps point you in a certain direction to find more information.
