DRussell Posted December 24, 2020 Report Posted December 24, 2020 I collect WWII items and have decided i would like to add a Japanese sword to my collection. The one i am looking at right now is simply listed as a "Japanese military sword," and is claimed to have been kept in an attic for many years. From my research i believe it to be a type 98 officers sword and to me, it looks genuine but that's purely based on an hours worth of googling. I know the extent some people go to in order to create fake firearms and i assume people would do the same with swords. I Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time. The attached pictures are the only ones provided. Respectfully, Russell Quote
Geraint Posted December 24, 2020 Report Posted December 24, 2020 Dear Russell. Welcome to NMB. From these pictures this one looks genuine. You could really do with pictures of the nakago, tang, to confirm this. Any Available? All the best. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 24, 2020 Report Posted December 24, 2020 No signs of fakery here. Like Geraint said, big piece of information is the nakago. Quote
DRussell Posted December 25, 2020 Author Report Posted December 25, 2020 Thank you both for your inputs. I was able to get a few pictures of the nakago. I will be attempting to figure out what/who these mean in the next few days. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 The date is August, 1943. Someone else will help you with the Smith name. Quote
Geraint Posted December 26, 2020 Report Posted December 26, 2020 What is now clear is that this is a genuine sword, made around WWII and in nice mounts. All the best with your bidding! 1 Quote
