No Clue Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 Here is the other side. Quote
No Clue Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 Not in great shape, but funny story. My father received another sword from a friend. His friend decided that the first sword was more significant, so he gave my father this one, LOL. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 18, 2020 Report Posted December 18, 2020 Would you mind sharing some more pics of the mounts and blade? Quote
No Clue Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 Not at all. What would you like to see? Remember, I'm a newbie. I would have to look up proper terminology, lol! Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 18, 2020 Report Posted December 18, 2020 Just pictures of the handle and close ups of the blade itself. Was there a tassel attached to the sword? Quote
No Clue Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 No Tassle, or not much of.... Quote
No Clue Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 Like I said, from what I've read here, not a complete sword, but blade, I think in good shape. Missing the " dowel" for the handle. Not sure if there are any other numbers on the pieces of handle. Quote
No Clue Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 But to think that my Dad's friend was more interested in value than Preservation is astounding! This Sword has spent more than 25 years in a closet ! It has lasted longer than my my Mom and Dad, may they rest in peace.... Quote
Brian Posted December 18, 2020 Report Posted December 18, 2020 You need to take good care of that one. It's of little interest to traditional Japanese sword collectors, but of huge interest to Japanese military sword guys. RARE and quite valuable. By now you'll have a bunch of pm's offering to buy it 2 Quote
francois2605 Posted December 18, 2020 Report Posted December 18, 2020 Since noone said it... About the stamp on the "other side", you can find more information in Bruce's great reference doc here ( More specifically: Quote (xix) Logo of the South Manchurian Railway Company. Seems to be associated with blades dated 1938. Scarce. It would be great if you could show close-up pictures of the hamon, kissaki and hada. Edit: You can read more about that famous company on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Manchuria_Railway 1 Quote
Shugyosha Posted December 18, 2020 Report Posted December 18, 2020 Nikki, In non-nohintoese that means the hardened edge, the point and activity above the whitish area at the edge but below the ridge that runs the length of the blade. 1 Quote
