The last of my project blades. Wanted to finish it myself, but too many things in life.
Soshu Masahiro daito, niji mei, daito, ubu. Nagasa 26 inches (66cm).
This is a serious work, excellent mokume jigane with plenty of ji nie, plenty of ara nie, suguha in masame with very strong nie, utsuri. The horimono was probably added sometimes at the end of Muromachi period.
NTHK NPO to later (Tensho, 1570-1590] generation. There is a conflicting opinion that its a second (Meitoku 1390-1394) generation. The reasons are sugata is strongly koshizori, the work is more consistent with the second generation, he signed nijimei (Tensho nijimei are unknown), and Yamato-Soshu mixture was getting in vogue at the time. However, signed Soshu daito are extremely rare, so determing the date with certainty would be a challenge.
The problem is – in places its considerably out of polish; there are smudges which should polish out, but there are also 3 ware (as pictured), which will not. They are between the hamon and the hada, courtesy of forging in long masame. Without them I think it would have a solid chance to go Juyo. With them – it will not.
Habaki, shirasaya, sword bag included.
3,300$, paypal and shipping within the US included, one week inspection period, money back no questions asked.
