DTM72 Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 I am looking for information on Kanehisa that used a different kanji than normally seen for "Kane" 金弘 I can't quite get the other 4 kanji. Un shu ? ? Ju Nori? Suye? Kane Hiro Saku Quote
Ray Singer Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 Appears to be signed Kanehiro. 1 Quote

Shugyosha Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 Hi Dan, I think it's this hiro: 宏 - there's something that looks like the pot lid radical at the top on the left. Quote

DTM72 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Report Posted December 8, 2020 金 宏 I can see the pot lid, now that you pointed it out. I am still unable to find a smith who signed with this signature in the swordsmith index. Quote
Shugyosha Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 ...but maybe not - Hawleys doesn't have anyone signing with that kanji. Here's the best I can do with the rest the first kanji might be the "Un" of Unshuu but might not be. The majority of Kanehiros were working in Mino. 雲州 ? 島住意 ?金宏作 So Unshuu something shima ju Moto or Nori Something Kanehiro saku. Edit: agreed on the "hiro" so your suggestion is better. Quote
Ray Singer Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 Perhaps: Unshu Kurushima ju (雲州来島住) 1 Quote
DTM72 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Report Posted December 8, 2020 Would this be considered "Tachi Mei"? Overall sugata looks like an old tachi. I would guess it is an EDO throwback. Quote

SteveM Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 藝州来島住滝本金弘作 Geishū Raijima-jū Takimoto Kanehiro saku is my guess. Meikan more (smith whose name isn't found in any list - in other words, an unknown smith). Or, a made-up name engraved on the sword to enhance its marketability. 1 Quote
DTM72 Posted December 9, 2020 Author Report Posted December 9, 2020 Wow....never thought this would be a yield so many different thoughts. With no info available on this smith, I may just have to pass on it. Quote
