Mu-Mei Posted December 2, 2020 Report Posted December 2, 2020 I need help identifying the Mon that is on the menuki of a recent O-Tonto I got. Any comment would be helpful. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 Never seen anything like it. Five petals in side view, plus two? At the end of Edo and beginning of Meiji people started making their own Kamon, as we know. This looks at bit like Hinagiku (daisy) from the side, so I ran searches on Hinagiku, and unusual flower Mon/Kamon. See some below. https://www.google.co.jp/search?q=珍しい+花+家紋&tbm=isch&hl=ja-jp&client=safari&prmd=isnv&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj17qa64bDtAhWRFKYKHVw3DfYQrNwCKAN6BQgBEK8B&biw=414&bih=715 Quote
uwe Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 Looks indeed quite odd. I will give it a go this evening.... Quote
mecox Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 First impression was a flying insect, but not a dragonfly (tombo) Quote
Mu-Mei Posted December 3, 2020 Author Report Posted December 3, 2020 My first impression was a hanging floral design, but can't find anything like it so far. Help is appreciated. View of other side, and all three disc are the same not just the middle. Quote
16k Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 I’ve looked in my files and so far, haven’t found anything close... Quote
Mu-Mei Posted December 4, 2020 Author Report Posted December 4, 2020 Thanks to all, I will also keep looking... still think it is a hanging floral pattern ... Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 I'm beginning to think it is a new variant of the Tachibana flower Mon. Some had five petals and two leaves. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 Honestly I don't think it is a mon - sometimes a flower is just a flower... -t 2 1 Quote
Mu-Mei Posted December 5, 2020 Author Report Posted December 5, 2020 Toryu, you may be right, the piece is what I would consider a little flashy and maybe the owner just like the shape. I will move on to other topics but will check in on this in case others have opinions. Now that I have found this site, I have a lot of research and sharing to do. I need to decide if I am going to remove the cord and sash or leave it as I bought it. Thanks to all, and Merry Christmas Quote
ChuckJ Posted December 7, 2020 Report Posted December 7, 2020 Hey Guys, I think we could be looking at Lotus leaves here, I found several examples which carry the five leaves and look very close. Just a thought. https://www.pngegg.com/en/png-duxbd Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 7, 2020 Report Posted December 7, 2020 In that link, Chuck, I found an example of the Sasa Lindo Mon. (Gentian or bellflower, with sasa bamboo leaves.) Is that what you are indicating? Quote
ChuckJ Posted December 7, 2020 Report Posted December 7, 2020 Hi Piers, Yes, I ran across it and it struck me as being similar to the topic here. I also saw several examples of lotus or what was identified as lotus which appeared very close to if not spot on for the menuki in this post. I found that mon put in with lotus images and thought it to be a close match! Just a thought. Chuck Quote
Mu-Mei Posted December 8, 2020 Author Report Posted December 8, 2020 Chuck I too saw that one it was the closest I have found ... thanks, 1 Quote
