Yamazakura Fr Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Hello I need your help about this water wheel tsuba 6,6 cm diameter 0,4 cm thick What do you think about this ?? Thank you Regards Quote
Fuuten Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Everything seems off plus the work seems terrible. I would vote bin. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 If you’re going to bin it, please send it to me. 😊 Quote
sabiji Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Not water wheel, but kikusui...😉 1 Quote
Shugyosha Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Doesn't look like a great example but I'd hesitate to dismiss it as a fake. The inlaid water droplets (and that some are missing) suggest a level of care over and above that found in most fakes which would simply be a cast copy. 1 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 real, but uglyer then a hat full of assholes 2 Quote
Spartancrest Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 I have to agree with John J. the ten-zogan is real and what remains of it is well done. I would say the theme is Chrysanthemum flower on water like Thomas S. suggested "Floating Chrysanthemum" = kikusui. The waves are a bit hurried but I have seen worse. 3 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Bernard, most of the photos are upside-down, but other than that the little TSUBA is o.k. Condition is so là là... 1 Quote
Surfson Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Looks ok to me too. Has an Onin style with the nails, and a kokinko style with the waves, but my sense is that it is a later tribute to those schools. Quote
Fuuten Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 The inlays seem so large and can't put my finger on the specific thing or variable that makes them look 'boring' - that's not it but they appear so large and unsightly to me they just look like a bad imitation of what such inlay can be or is supposed to be. Also the dots that are 'missing' they just look like they were added to give that effect. I'm wondering whether Ford would lean towards a novice metalworker's work or just outright fake, albeit perhaps better executed than some cast of handworked imitation.. Now please don't take the above personal because this is just how it appears to me at this moment in time and I'm not even a layman or novice in this world. What do I know, curious to see more input. 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted November 27, 2020 Report Posted November 27, 2020 Bernard, there is a first cousin example very much like your guard - https://www.jauce.com/auction/u404604446 In this case rather than waves being depicted, it is amida-yasuri representing the halo of the Buddha and a single cherry flower. It is described as contemporary work. Quote
