francantolin Posted November 21, 2020 Report Posted November 21, 2020 Hello dear members, I wanted your precious advice about this katana sword, it was sold as an original piece but not really expensive. The mounts , scabbard seems more a copy of katana made in spain the blade I don't know, pictures are blurry, so for me it was just a copy But the seller send me two pictures on the tang and tsuba with signature/engravings. Do you think it's a real one ? or chinese copy with imitation of mei signature ? Quote
16k Posted November 21, 2020 Report Posted November 21, 2020 Your pictures are t clear enough to judge but I can’t say I like what I see. Remove the peg and show us the tang. 1 Quote

paulb Posted November 21, 2020 Report Posted November 21, 2020 unfortunately it is not original. It looks to be a low cost Chinese copy 2 Quote

16k Posted November 21, 2020 Report Posted November 21, 2020 Yes, that’s a copy, unfortunately. Quote
francantolin Posted November 21, 2020 Author Report Posted November 21, 2020 Hello, Thank you all for your answers !! I wonder why they take time for make fake mei signatures... the rest of the sword is no perfect at all so they can't pretend a high price and sell it as a real one Quote
16k Posted November 21, 2020 Report Posted November 21, 2020 They take the time because someone who’s never seen a real sword might know that Japanese swords are all Signed. This is not the case, of course, but if a total newbie sees said sword plus a signature, it will dispel any doubt for him that it might be a fake. Moreover, some Chinese company, like Hanwei, sign their high end swords, though clearly, nothing high end here! 1 Quote

That sword you show is ugly and the signature is nothing more than "Kritzelkrakel" done by chinese fakers. Quote
16k Posted November 23, 2020 Report Posted November 23, 2020 Come on, Chris, even real Picasso's are ugly, you probably can’t do worse! 1 3 Quote
