16k Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 I’d go with black jabara ito. Nice tanto! 2 Quote
envocat Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 Stick with an autumnal theme, a pale/soft orange. Peach! 1 Quote
Brian Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Cream for me. But you have to make sure you keep your hands clean or wear gloves. 3 Quote
vajo Posted November 1, 2020 Author Report Posted November 1, 2020 Is really not easy now... 😁 1 Quote
dwmc Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Chris, It's not easy ! If it had a bit of original ito, at least you could justify using the same color. Hopefully, you have menuki your happy with and don't have to suffer through making that decision also... I think the Fred Lohman silk Tsuka-ito # 13 Blood red would look nice on your Tanto ! Gunome Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Considering the red saya, the white same and the "red" suaka tosogu, I would not go on blue or green ito. Too many différents colors. I would even stay on dark colors: black or dark Brown or light color like the suggested creams. IMHO, the pure white is too flashy. Then you also need to considere the style: regular 8mm ito, 6mm thin one, jabara, etc... Not an easy choice ! 3 Quote
vajo Posted November 1, 2020 Author Report Posted November 1, 2020 All good ideas you wrote and they are welcome to make a decission. My thoughts become a little clearer. Its a long and strong tanto with simple fittings. Personal i like it colorfull. So i think i would tend indeed to leaf green (2) or a ocean blue (8) that make a hard contrast to the red saya. 6mm ito will be look better than the standard width i think. 1 and 10 looks also nice too. It's terrible... 😄 And black is classic what i like. But red looks cool too. And the cream white is very noble. 1 Quote
16k Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 4 or 7 for me. The reason I’m going for black and jabara maki is because there seems to be some black intermixed with the red of the saya. So black would recall that. But cream looks classy too. 1 Quote
EdWolf Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Nr 7 for me. Yellow and red makes a nice combination. 3 Quote
16k Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Now, if you really want opposite colors, the opposite color to red is green in the chromatic wheel. 1 Quote
Wayben Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Red and green always reminds me of a Christmas ornament. I think with the red saya and color of the fittings, yellow would look good. Kind of a deep yellow that would play off the fittings. 1 1 Quote

Is there a pure white Ito anyway? 1 Quote
dwmc Posted November 2, 2020 Report Posted November 2, 2020 Just wanted to clarify my earlier suggestion...bright Christmas red would not look good, but a darker maroon or burgundy color of red I think would look great! Cream color would also be a good choice! Dave M. 1 Quote
16k Posted November 2, 2020 Report Posted November 2, 2020 Well, if someone hung a green and red Tanto in my Christmas tree, I think it would renew by belief in Santa Claus! 😋 4 Quote

Hello Dale, What I called "pure white" was these kind of white (the "white" not "ivory"). Don't know really if it is pure white, but it is close. https://www.namikawa-ltd.com/product/145 1 Quote
dwmc Posted November 2, 2020 Report Posted November 2, 2020 Too much wine color?? Not enough contrast as green or cream perhaps ? Dave M. 1 Quote
waljamada Posted November 3, 2020 Report Posted November 3, 2020 I couldn't decide on one so went with a top 3. Quote

John A Stuart Posted November 3, 2020 Report Posted November 3, 2020 White maki reminds me of mourning. In fact, when a lord has their funeral march all tsuka are over-wrapped in white cloth. You may see this on the miniature display at the Meijijingu. John 1 Quote

vajo Posted November 3, 2020 Author Report Posted November 3, 2020 Ok the decission comes nearer. I think it will be xxxxxx. The question now is silk or cotton, big or small sections. Quote
