Shodan Posted October 20, 2020 Report Posted October 20, 2020 Hello, I hope all are well. I purchased this katana some 10 months ago. Over all condition was a very difficult dark patina to see through. One area was clear enough to see Hada. I had it polished. This is what was found. Sorry pictures are not the best. Quote
Rivkin Posted October 20, 2020 Report Posted October 20, 2020 Its very difficult to state anything definitively but I would lean towards shinshinto. They experimented a lot with different hada being obtained by a combination of steels, with very broad, long, high contrast but devoid of ji nie, or on the contrary - with much black ara nie structures. Ken-Hawaii Posted October 20, 2020 Report Posted October 20, 2020 Kirill, do you have a few smiths' names who were doing those steel combinations? Quote
Rivkin Posted October 20, 2020 Report Posted October 20, 2020 I would think about the whole Ikkansai lineage, beginning with Ikkansai Yoshihiro, but there were many others, even Naotane's take on Hosho has very thick dark and white lines that are clearly forge-wielded, Kirill R. Quote
Stephen Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 Acid wash part of the togi's work. Mind telling us who polished it. 2 Quote
