Infinite_Wisdumb Posted December 20, 2023 Report Posted December 20, 2023 this thread is a reminder to me that we are all students and almost always wrong. Except Jussi and Curran and Ford. 1 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 20, 2023 Author Report Posted December 20, 2023 Even the local NBTHK chairman who had recommended sending it to shinsa was surprised. Quote

Should we add the NBTHK to the list of people who are still students and often wrong? Ive already lost confidence in the NTHK from reports out of the last CHI shinsa 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 22, 2023 Author Report Posted December 22, 2023 We have a heated thread running on just this theme somewhere, guys! (Well maybe it has gone off the boil recently...) Quote
lonely panet Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 Well if we have no confidence in the NTHK OR NBTHK, that might raise issues to opinions on juyo and above considering the costs involved with achieving that high quality certification Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 22, 2023 Author Report Posted December 22, 2023 The general conclusion was that NBTHK gets it right most of the time, which explains its reputation, having a higher degree of cred than the NTHK. Both are good, but NBTHK are better, (more trustworthy?) but neither is or could ever be 100% perfect. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 22, 2023 Author Report Posted December 22, 2023 PS In the car today I was thinking, for maximum reliability do you buy a Toyota or a Mazda? Quote
lonely panet Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 Toyota every day of the week. Grew up in 2 old 2x4 hilux's on the farm. All had over 400,000kms on the clock with no major issues.. Had a fj cruiser 200,000 kms with no issues and a yaris with close to 300,000kms. Once again no issues. 2 Quote
Matsunoki Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 100% Toyota for sure. I’m on my second Landcruiser. Did 150k in the first with no issues. Current one is on 155k and drives like new. They are engineered for 25 years. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 22, 2023 Author Report Posted December 22, 2023 Great, so there we are. NBTHK = Toyota. NTHK = Mazda. 1 5 Quote

If I am looking at your boshi correctly, it appears to be hakikake, should be ko- maru, I believe. IMHO. Peace. Also, the mei is a copy of the 2nd gen. and not as bold. Imho. Peace. Tom. D. Not studied this smith or hit the books but cant help but wonder if Tom D had a point about the boshi needing to be Ko-maru But then i think, surely with the exceptions the rules rule, this might have been a rare exception. Got be some reason they didn't pass it. Piers, bet your sick of this thread , no wonder its turned to motors 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted October 3 Author Report Posted October 3 Alex, I sold the blade as the rush subsided. Perhaps I should have kept it. The experts seemed divided! But it was a learning experience for me, and for that alone I give thanks. (But the blade did seem to embody some special feeling. I wonder...) Quote
