Tonkotsu Posted September 29, 2020 Report Posted September 29, 2020 Here is what I think is a Type 94 shin guntō. The sword is in excellent condition, however the tsuka is wrapped with blue chord which I think is unusual. Any information about this sword would be appreciated. Thanks, Dick 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 29, 2020 Report Posted September 29, 2020 Hi Dick, that is a Type 98 and in really fantastic condition. The blue Ito is certainly rare but other examples exist, great find! 2 Quote
Dave R Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 Blue wrap is great. This is described as sea green but I reckon it's faded from blue. 2 Quote
vajo Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 It seems often blue in the pictures but it its moore greenish in natural light. Beautifull sword! I like it very much. 1 Quote
Tonkotsu Posted September 30, 2020 Author Report Posted September 30, 2020 Thank you all for the information. What does the writing on the nakago say? Thank you again, Dick Quote
vajo Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 I would read it Masayasu Kitau Kore. 尾 州 住 真 野 正 泰 利 鍛 之 Bishu ju mano Masayasu kitau kore 2 Quote
vajo Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 I want to mark that the signature didn't fit to the reportet masayasu signatures from Slough. They look different and more dense. But i want to say that your signature looks excellent made and looks very nice. I think the sword was signed by one of his students. 2 Quote

IJASWORDS Posted October 1, 2020 Report Posted October 1, 2020 Chris (vajo), another Mano Masayasu mei, looks gendai-to no date no stamp. And John (PNSSHOGUN), you may be able to tell me if it is in '94 mounts. Pierced tsuba, and centre latch button. 2 Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted October 1, 2020 Report Posted October 1, 2020 @IJASWORDS Has many hallmarks of a Type 94, or at least nice early Type 98. Quote
