Boongie Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 Hello. My first post here on this forum. Can anyone provide me with assistance on the translation of the inscription on this sword? I believe that it is of World War II vintage. Also, any feedback as to the rarity and value of the sword? Thanks! Quote
lonely panet Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 it reads, or i think it reads toto junin ikkansai kunimori kin saku but later became well known as miyaguchi YASUHIROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO a yasukuni smith. other members could give there ops on the mei. but the nakago and hamon look correct to me. but i could be talking out my ass Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 Yes, Miyaguchi Kunimori, a very fine sword and mounts. There is a fair bit of information about this smith out there, you have a very good condition & quality Shin Gunto there. Quote
Michaelr Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 Steve welcome. I don’t know what it says but looks like a beauty to me. MikeR Quote
IJASWORDS Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Boogie (name?), if you go back to July 27, look for the thread on Help with ... Kunimori, you will get some good information. Quote

I am somewhat surprised that the value would be that high, considering the straight hamon and that the steel may not be tamahagane. I will look up Kunimori on this forum. Quote
Boongie Posted September 9, 2020 Author Report Posted September 9, 2020 Is it typical that there would be inscriptions on both sides of the sword tang? And can a breakdown be provided as to what each side separately says? Thanks! Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Steve, You didn't show us a picture of the other side. It's likely a date. If you post a pic, we can translate that. Someone should be able to give you a full translation of the mei side. If you don't get one soon, bring it to the TRANSLATION ASSISTANCE FORUM. Quote

Hi Bruce: I checked with the current owner of this sword and he informed me that there are no inscriptions on the other side of the tang. Steve 1 Quote
