Brian Posted September 3, 2020 Report Posted September 3, 2020 I have had one or 2 people tell me that they find the scrolling Japan News ticker distracting and for some reason bothers them. Personally, I wanted something like this and I enjoy it. We get the latest news out of Japan every 20 minutes and sometimes important or interesting things appear. It wasn't too expensive a plug-in, but since this is your forum...I wanted to give you guys the option of deciding if it should stay or go. I have already set it to only appear on the desktop themes, so those on cellphone or tablet won't see it. But there is no option for people to remove it just for themselves. Soooooo......here's your chance to make a difference. Decide if it should stay or go. I'd need a 2/3 majority to do either. The catch is you need to stand up for your choices. In other words, your vote isn't private. But I don't mind if you don't like it. No negative feelings. So feel free to choose what you want. Please vote guys. These polls only work if we get participation. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 3, 2020 Report Posted September 3, 2020 Third choice: Doesn't matter to me either way. "check" 2 Quote
Mark S. Posted September 3, 2020 Report Posted September 3, 2020 I think it's ok but wouldn't be hurt one way or the other on the final decision. Quote
Brian Posted September 3, 2020 Author Report Posted September 3, 2020 No third choice. If it doesn’t bother you, then that is a YES. Basically looking to see who really doesn’t want it. Quote
Stephen Posted September 3, 2020 Report Posted September 3, 2020 I love it....welcome NMB to current times! 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 4, 2020 Report Posted September 4, 2020 Is there a way users can individually hide it? If not it can always be paused, personally I think it's neat. Quote

Brian Posted September 5, 2020 Author Report Posted September 5, 2020 19 Votes? I think we can do better guys. Can't sit on the fence permanently. Vote. Quote
mecox Posted September 5, 2020 Report Posted September 5, 2020 Fine by me and has some good news angles Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 6, 2020 Report Posted September 6, 2020 Amazing what bothers people! I like it! Quote
b.hennick Posted September 6, 2020 Report Posted September 6, 2020 I wonder how much data it uses up. I find it distracting. I need to turn it off whenever it starts rolling. Quote
Stephen Posted September 6, 2020 Report Posted September 6, 2020 I only see it on lap top not on cell. Is it on every theme? Quote
Stephen Posted September 6, 2020 Report Posted September 6, 2020 ok it is. like you said Barry if that distracting id just pause it. BTW i seldom use LTop i see Activity now. Quote
Greg F Posted September 7, 2020 Report Posted September 7, 2020 At first I found it distracting but now I dont mind it as long as the forum is going ok financially. I vote yes but if we struggle financially I think it could be removed I guess. Quote
Brian Posted September 7, 2020 Author Report Posted September 7, 2020 Finance has nothing to do with it. It was a once off very small plugin purchase...inconsequential. And minimal data or any other effect. I normally never follow Japan news, and yet this has had me click multiple links for the first time...so it is working for me. 2 1 Quote
SAS Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 I get stuck behind the paywall, as it says I have exceeded my free articles. Quote
ChrisW Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 That's because its a separate website, most news sites cannot survive on ad revenue these days; so they offer subscription models. Quote
Brian Posted November 11, 2020 Author Report Posted November 11, 2020 As mentioned, that must be from the Japan Times. It's obviously keeping track of how much you use it. Check your cookies and delete any to do with that newspaper and maybe it will reset the views. I can easily change it to feed from a different source, but that one seems to be fairly good. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 Have you tried Japan Today? I've never been asked for a subscription. You can post comments on articles there too, if you sign up. To tell the truth, when I agreed to the above feed here on NMB, I mistakenly thought it was Japan Today! (The only major downside to Japan Today is their moderators who seem to work under the weirdest, narrowest rules you could imagine. Oh, and their swearword filter which is on a hair trigger, leaving you to scratch you head trying to work out which innocent word might have set it off. ) 1 Quote
Brian Posted November 11, 2020 Author Report Posted November 11, 2020 Ok....Changed to Japan Today. Let's see how that one goes. 3 Quote
Stephen Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 I never see it unless i get oo LT Which is about 5% of time. So no biggie. Quote
