dkirkpatrick Posted August 27, 2020 Report Posted August 27, 2020 https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-old-Japanese-Samurai-Sword-with-Sharkskin-Handle/224132347896?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144 I’m just guessing someone here talked the seller into cancelling, guess my offer wasn’t enticing enough. Nice mokumegane guri bori tsuba style of Okitsugu, well done mon fuchi, and what must be a pretty decent blade. If indeed anyone here let us know what you find if you would....it’s the least you can do😀. Doug 1 Quote
Steves87 Posted August 27, 2020 Report Posted August 27, 2020 That looked like a bargain all round... wasnt me though Quote
BenVK Posted August 27, 2020 Report Posted August 27, 2020 Hira zukuri and bo-hi?, that's very unusual for a katana. Quote
Babu Posted August 27, 2020 Report Posted August 27, 2020 It was worth a punt but unfortunately I think that the seller may have backed out as it wasn't sitting high enough price wise at this stage and offers tend to put sellers on their guard. You think you make a fair offer and they think they can get a lot more. If many are interested you can have a closed auction outside of eBay. Play one bidder against another...... Even if that ”other" is totally fictitious. 1 Quote
Geraint Posted August 27, 2020 Report Posted August 27, 2020 Dear Ben. Might just be shinogi bi, hi running along the shinogi, rather than hirazukuri. From the look of the kissaki it seems possible. Still an interesting thing. All the best. 1 Quote
waljamada Posted August 28, 2020 Report Posted August 28, 2020 Speaking of who got it and don't mean to try and hijack the thread but....if anyone here bought this blade from katana boutique ill pay $400 more than what you paid and all shipping etc...if you'd want to sell it. Quote
Babu Posted August 28, 2020 Report Posted August 28, 2020 Is it me or is that bonji looking like it's been done with a dremmel? I think I saw that. The carving if I'm right, is all wrong. Bo bi aside. 1 Quote
waljamada Posted August 28, 2020 Report Posted August 28, 2020 Adam, I really love the style of the different bohis on it. The Bonji i would rather not be there. My mind took the bonji appearence as a style rather than dremel mostly due to my assumption that the bohi look right so the rest must be too right? I do need to beware making that assumption too easily. Quote
Babu Posted August 28, 2020 Report Posted August 28, 2020 Adam I seem to remember looking at that sword it was not well forged and the later work was a dremmel. Good Bonji is nice and normally as thin as a chisel. You would struggle to recover your money on that so many people would not want it. 1 Quote
Curran Posted August 28, 2020 Report Posted August 28, 2020 If this sword comes up again, I wouldn't mind buying the tsuba. I'm just a fittings collector- no interest in the sword. 3 Quote
Babu Posted August 28, 2020 Report Posted August 28, 2020 +1 for the tsuba agreed. Swords if no interest. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 4, 2020 Report Posted September 4, 2020 Good catch Robert, any promise in the blade? Quote
