Mei on sword for sale

The vendor of this sword states it is signed Kiyomitsu 清光 . I think that is right, (not that Im any good at reading the mei) but the vendor is in my experience a trustworthy man.

What Id like to know is does this date to the 16th century and is it likely to be Bizen? I dont have the resources to tell this.

Cheers

Steve

Does read Kiyomitsu. May be 16th century; may be later. May be Bizen (does look like a Bizen nakago); may be somewhere else. Definitely Japan.

Maybe if we saw a picture of the whole blade we might be able to tell you more about age, and if you can describe the hamon and hada we might have something to say about den/school/province.

Hello,

Well in the spirit of putting my foot in it again. :D

I think the mei speaks for itself.

The character Mitsu is a bit "squat" and does not look very "naturally" done. The atari seem to be random all over the mei.

It still depends on the era that the item is attributed too but instinct says it is not right for someone who wrote there name a lot.

Now who is going to prove me wrong? ;)

regards

Shan
