John A Stuart Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Hi Guys, Well, I made it to Gifu and I shall get to the Kanesada/Kanemoto exhibit tomorrow, if I don't succumb. Caught something nasty 4 days ago. I could not get further than one mile from my room without a panicked dash back every time. It really mucked upsome plans. That has settled, but, I have a miserable chest and head cold now. I blame it on the maids. I had my air conditioning set to 60F and after a few days they disabled it externaly to my room. I melted and then cooled outside. Not good. Anyhow I shall recuperate in Takayama where my hotel has an onsen to soak in. Oh, I should mention that there was almost 200 swords on display at the NBTHK convention for personal viewing, it was by a timer 30sec. each before off to the next in line. I will not torture you with what was there. John Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Hope you'll get better soon ! Enjoy your time there!! And if possible take pictures!! best wishes, KM Quote
Tokaido Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Hi John, best wishes for recovering and please don't forget the just started exhibition about Masamune, Muramasa etc in the Sano Museum in Mishima which will last until Dezember 21th. I visited on Thuesday and the swords are fantastic and the lighting is superb, much better than at Keio Plaza > Three Masamune (all better than at Keio Plaza), two Kunimitsu, two Hiromitsu Tanto, several blades of Shimada School (Yoshisuke etc) and of course the Muramasa blades. Unfortunately there is no catalogue availiable, but most swords are acompanied by large scale pictures AND are availiable at a PC Station in the showroom for magnified views. I wish I could get this pictures on my memorystick. Greetings Andreas Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 12, 2008 Author Report Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks guys, Yes, I will be there. I have talked to a travel agent about it. Sounds, "grrrrreat" as Tony the Tiger would say. John BTW, If I can I shall try and get those pics on a stick and share. If allowed Quote
Brian Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 John, I am still battling the flu/bronchitis myself (No..I wasn't the carrier I hope!) Hope you feel better. I am running out of days myself. Want to make the Sano exhibition, but not sure if I can swing it. If you are in Takayama, make sure you hit the old quarter. There are lots of antiques shops there with some good fittings, and prices were good if I remember. One cheap yari that I should have taken, but didn't. Ask around and they will bring out stuff. Did Nara today, Kobe tomorrow. Kyoto tosogu prices are way out..but did pick up a nice fuchi signed Naomitsu I think. Will have to post that one for opinions sometime. Also a shakudo tsuba with nanako in the center and Kaga? zogan. Brian Quote

John A Stuart Posted November 12, 2008 Author Report Posted November 12, 2008 No Brian, I haven't had a sniffle really for a few years. I guess it was just my time. I meant to finish the Macallans with you two but, was too ill. John Quote
