Looking for a translation on this.  I'm afraid I can't remember where I got it.  It's an old photo in my stamps files.  It appears to be a stamped mei, though it could be something on a nakago mune, hard to tell from the angle.  Any help?

Thanks guys!

Bruce, the first character is quite difficult to make out. I'm fairly confident that the radical on the left is 另, and the second part of the character looks like 目.
However, there is no such character which combines these.  The closest possibly which I can find is 別, but I'm not convinced that's correct.

Thanks Kyle, I was just about to update:  Got 2 anonymous readings that both agree that it's:

"別上 (betsu-jō)

It is used on knives to indicate solid steel construction. I'm not sure what it means on swords, but it could plausibly have the same connotation."

While reading the revised stamp document that came out today, I noticed on page 14 the picture that is depicted in the OP.  However, I beg to disagree with the identification and think the characters are 别上 instead.  I have enlarged the first character below so that the differences between the two can be seen.  I would like a second opinion from @SteveM and @BANGBANGSAN.

别 versus 別.

Edit: the characters have the same meaning.

I'm pretty sure its betsujō using the standard version of betsu (別). It's just that there are some incidental marks on the sword that are making the 別 look slightly confusing.

That's not the new version, sorry.  I updated the Summary paragraph in anticipation of @Brian posting the new one, which should happen soon.  The screenshot will show the date - March 2023 - rather than a version number.
