Andi B. Posted July 31, 2020 Report Posted July 31, 2020 Hello, here is a nice kinko kogai with a wild boar motif. It has a distinctive warabite carved in and is inscribed on the back with gimei Kikuoka Mitsuyuki (kaō) – 菊岡光行. How would you experts classify this piece? Any idea about school & age? Quote
Babu Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 Hi Andi, I would imagine with that mei it's trying to identify as The Kikuoka school and the masters workmanship.Your right it's not skilled enough IMHO to be. But in order to try to pass as real, the mei and the work would be copied. I expect many schools did kozuka in this style. There were crossovers from many schools who saw inspiration in another school or artisans work. It's a nice enough piece of art though. Quote
