勅使川原了檉直張圖

勅使川原 (Teshigawara) is a family name. The last 圖 (= 図: zu) may mean a picture. I might be wrong about the 3rd last kanji.

I am not sure about the correct reading or meaning for other characters.

thanks, Nobody san,

I was thinking the first 6 kanji ( start from left ) were some sort of " title ", then 2 character mei followed by " draw ".......

The first kanji ( actually the 7th ) of the mei, I think, read as " Cho " ( as in Soga school painters ).

p.s. pic of date ( at the back of the top rod ), circa 1830's but need translation of the zodiac date to get the exact year.

The date may be ……

嘉永四辛亥十二月上旬 (Kaei 4 Kanoto-I 12 gatsu jojun)

= the beginning of the 12th month of 1851

I cannot decipher other characters. But the last two kanji could be 由来 (yurai = origin). :?:

I don't think so......... they do not( as far as I know ) know the Japanese scroll mounting convention YET.

From the book " Japanese art signature " by Self and Hirose.......

1st kanji.....#71, I , Kore ( Date as in Date Masamune )

2nd kanji...# 1128, Michi, Tada

3 rd kanji.... # 860, Ei , Hide, Hisa, Yoshi, Naka.

4th kanji.....#1569, Ga, Ka, Masa

Now i need the " proper " combination ".

I know the " meaning" of the first 3 kanji which is the " title/art name " ..... genuine smile dude ? :glee:

followed by drawn when he was 63 years old.

How do you say that in Nihongo ?
