John C Posted March 10, 2024 Report Posted March 10, 2024 I see chrysanthemum, bamboo leaf, and plum flower. What is the one on the bottom right? John C. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 13, 2024 Report Posted July 13, 2024 Another of the "grape leaf or Budo" style on this rig posted by LiLDJT on THIS GUNBOARDS THREAD. Haven't gotten the mei translated yet. Yoshi-something. Quote
Itomagoi Posted July 17, 2024 Author Report Posted July 17, 2024 I have often seen this “Kiku-Sui” motif on Fuchi and Kashira and I think they are also civilian WW2 fittings. Have any of you ever seen the matching tsuba? https://buyee.jp/ite...VDNBYXN4ZXBzWUE2OD0= btw I haven't seen this kind of seppa with the leather lock and I think it's pretty cool. :-) 2 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 18, 2024 Report Posted July 18, 2024 That's cool, Peter! I only have 2 tsuba with kiku motif, though different in design: Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 8, 2024 Report Posted December 8, 2024 Here's an unusual one - a Type 98 almost standard, except it's got a budo (grape leaf) Gunzoku fuchi. Found at this Bamfords Auction. Blade is an undated, showa stamped Kanesada: Quote

It would help to see if the saya was push fit or latch fit. Maybe the original had two koshirae but extra parts were lost at some point? I have a type 98 which came with two tsuba, one shin-gunto and one civilian. Quote

The fuchi doesn't completely fit and the tsuba/seppa set look loose. However, the mekugi is missing. So, the whole rig could just be loose due to that. Could have been one of those gunto that showed up missing those parts, like my Mantetsu, and a collector pieced some stuff together. 1 Quote
