Guido Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Isn’t that the guy who registered “Nihonto” as a trademark, and threatened the NMB with a lawsuit if that word wasn’t removed from the forum? 3 Quote
Hoshi Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Last time I checked there was so many gimei/YJP! "treasures" floating about and being presented as legitimate that I just put it in the scam category of my mental repertoire. I mean look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qni28kP0dFo&list=PL9hcecXUdJrp396fVDoyOJsBQHmBjFJ_9&index=5 It's not even a decent fake. What a shame to put it up there without a disclaimer. Now to learn that they threatened lawsuit over copy-writing "Nihonto" just tells you all you need to know: stay away and give no credence to these people. 2 Quote
Brian Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 To clarify...he didn't threaten us with anything, and he only went after some European business competitors/dealers.But yes..he did copyright the word. Quote
Ganko Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 How can you copyright something in the public domain? I would refrain from viewing his site. Quote

"Apple" is a good example! https://secureyourtrademark.com/can-you-trademark/common-words-phrases/ Quote
Gakusee Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 I did check with a lawyer back then. The grant seems to be erroneous as he is using a generic term, which means Japanese swords, to sell Japanese swords. That would not be allowed. Even Bruce’s post prior to mine corroborates the same - Apple cannot be trademarked by a business selling fruits or only apples. 1 Quote
BjornLundin Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Purchased two blades from him as a new starter. Most probably was quite largely fooled and price inflated in terms of quality. Still they are real blades but what I gather he is not telling all the trues. Quote
