Spartancrest
Bruce, that habaki looks similar to some on this site - https://www.jauce.com/user/ratpq97834?search=ハバキ [no age to them] and mixed in with these - https://www.jauce.com/search/ハバキ?page=1&n=100&link=&auccat=2084057815&query=ハバキ 1

We could add 2 more pages to this thread with the habaki on that site! Can't tell if most of them are new (they look new), or were they refurbished? But even though I don't collect Habaki there are a few there that have some age to them and are quite interesting and desirable. 2

Bruce Pennington
An interesting one on a WWII re-fitted sword with an Edo/Kanbun era Kanemichi blade, with Kiku, posted by Bob C at this Wehrmacht-awards Thread. The discussion says that some of the design originated in Greece, then to China, then to Japan. If you're unable to see the images on the W-A thread, the kiku with mei is posted on this NMB Thread. 2
Baka Gaijin
Hi Bruce, I have only just discovered this thread. There is one style of Habaki from Kaga area, that is Talismanic. Its to do with a deep Alchemy known as Kuji - In that certain Bushi involved themselves in, in order to create Invincibility. (As They Perceived it). Rin Pyo To Sha Kai Jin Retsu Zai Zen is the usual translation of the nine lines. Unfortunately it was kidnapped by lesser souls in the late 20th Century, and featured in low budget Ninja Eiga. I would warn, this is a deep and solitary journey into the Pre- Modern Japanese Warrior Psyche. It's way beyond my pay grade, but here are some links that may make you as confused as I am. I've been studying this since 1976, and its so profound. Enjoy the Journey....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuji-in

kissakai
Hi Malcolm Just had a read and as you say it would take a lot of guidance and study It was interesting to see the hand and finger movements we have seen in a few martial art films

I admit, on first glance I thought "Hm, kind of crude and ugly" but after taking a close look, there's an incredible amount of detail in there!!!

Certainly a bold looking habiki! It definitely caught my eye Cheers!

The habaki and tsuba were a one piece shirasaya mounting. I believe the shirasaya is a more modern piece made by Mike Virgadamo.
