Raphael Pauli Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 Hi all, I just bought this kai guntou tassel but by mounting it on my sword, I remarked it's particularely short... What do you think of that? Have you ever seen something like this? Has anyone doubts on its authenticity? Note that as I bought it, there was no knot at the end to bind the two "pompoms" together. This shorten of course the lenght. Many thanks in advance for helping. Raphaël Pauli Quote
MarcoUdin Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 I'm assuming you meant to post a picture with it? Or is it just not loading up for me? Quote
Raphael Pauli Posted June 27, 2020 Author Report Posted June 27, 2020 I'm indeed desperately trying to post the picture but it just doesn't work... No idea why. I try again here Quote
MarcoUdin Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 What is the measurement for the length of the tassel. If I'm not mistaken I recall Bruce posting something from the war relics forums saying the navy tassels were shorter than army tassels, as I looked into it a couple months ago. I don't have the post bookmarked but I'm sure someone could find it Quote
MarcoUdin Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 Actually found it quicker than I thought. Sorry for spam posting :D http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/25975-breaking-news-on-the-all-brown-army-gunto-tassel/#:~:text=Anyone%20have%20contact%20info%20for,gunto%20seem%20to%20confirm%20this. Raphael Pauli Posted June 27, 2020 Author Report Posted June 27, 2020 I try again to post, let's see if it works... Quote
Raphael Pauli Posted June 27, 2020 Author Report Posted June 27, 2020 Many thanks Marc! I've been spaming this topic much more than you with my tries, so please don't apologize. I'll post my picture in the other chat to see what is said. Kind regards! Raphaël Pauli Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 Raphael, I'm not a tassel expert, but from what I see, it looks legit. While Nick's uncovered regulation states length requirements, I've found that the numerous fitting manunfacturers varied in many areas of war products. Here's a picture I posted on page 6 of that thread: Quote
Raphael Pauli Posted June 28, 2020 Author Report Posted June 28, 2020 Hi Bruce, Thank you for your answer. I can't find the thread you're talking about, do you have the link? Also, on that page http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/25975-breaking-news-on-the-all-brown-army-gunto-tassel/#:~:text=Anyone%20have%20contact%20info%20for,gunto%20seem%20to%20confirm%20this you posted a part of an official regulation document. Do you have a copy of the hole document? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 I actually posted the same pics on the thread Marc posted above, but here it is: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/25975-breaking-news-on-the-all-brown-army-gunto-tassel/#:~:text=Anyone%20have%20contact%20info%20for,gunto%20seem%20to%20confirm%20this The regulation was cited by Nick Komiya on Warrelics, here: http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/Japanese-militaria/what-were-regulations-army-civilian-employees-carry-swords-701783-6/ 1 Quote
Ontario_Archaeology Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 It appears the best way to tell if it is a brown navy vs army is colour as the lengths are varying. Unless someone wanted to start making a chart documenting the lengths to see if there is a standard deviation for each. Quote
