Need help to locate " shoshin " mei sample to compare with this...............

he's ( Goto Houjyo ) one of those descendants of branch families, listed in one of the many Goto family geneology charts but I don't have that " big thick Goto " book to have an actual example to compare.

p.s. that's not my hand

p.p.s. I think it's gimei ( the kakihan < spelling ? > looks " weak " , just a gut feeling )

Milt -- I was looking at that kogai when it was listed and I feel if the mei is shoshin it is from a branch maker as it is not by Goto Houjou, 15th Shirobei master. There are several makers listed in Haynes without recorded mei and I could not find this mei in the Kyo goto reference. Or it might be as you suspect, gimei, which would be unfortunate as the work is well done. The strikes in the mei look poorly placed especially in 'Jou' and it sort of makes me wonder about it's validity.

Dirk,

I think I actually found a comparable sample mei for YOUR koz...........

if you have the Goto family 17 generation catalog, it's on page 114, mei # 46 ( the 5th gen.master ), it's not the same guy as mine ( m ine is on one of those sideline geneology chart )
