Tom Darling Posted June 26, 2020 Report Posted June 26, 2020 I recall seeing one several years ago. Signed late koto Bizen katana with kaji mei on each side, both had different hamon. Has anybody ever seen a sword made by two kaji. If you have any pic from books, or origami from NBTHK kindly post them. It's either a katana or tachi THank you. Tom D. Quote
Ray Singer Posted June 26, 2020 Report Posted June 26, 2020 Gassaku blades are not so rare. Some smiths such as Bizen Katsumitsu and Munemitsu made gassaku in large numbers. 3 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 Agreed. I have seen many gassaku blades over the years. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 But did they both have their own hamon? 2 Quote
Ray Singer Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 As far as Mishina blades, yes. One of these was discussed here in the past in which the Yoshimichi side had his textbook sudareba while the opposite side had a hamon more representative of the other smith. I don't recall who was the partnering smith in that particular swords. 3 Quote
Ray Singer Posted June 27, 2020 Report Posted June 27, 2020 One in which the kitae varied from one side to another. https://markussesko.com/2016/05/19/an-interesting-gassaku/ 2 Quote

izardofwoz Posted July 19, 2020 Report Posted July 19, 2020 Possibly the blade was retempered at some point, and a second smith added his signature, along with a distinctly different hamon? ~N Quote
