Bungo Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 I just found out 10:30 AM slanting sunlight makes sword pic taking " easier ". I can actually get some hada detail without the flash that " whites out " everything. This is another O-suriage katana I have for years that needs polish . People have commented on the " slight curve " of the nakago ( like it's really cut down a lot ). Any opinion is welcome............ no, Bungo is extremely unlikely. milt Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Could you make a close-up of the nakago or scan it? might help with seeing the depth of the rust.. period wise.. KM Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Milt, from the images there does appear to be some koshi-zori. Which 'generally' narrows down the choice to late muromachi copy or possibly an old sword. No matter what this sword turns out to be, a pre-polish window opened is always a good idea. Quote
Bungo Posted November 3, 2008 Author Report Posted November 3, 2008 KM, wouldn't the condition only show " when " the cutting down was done ? OTOH, I do see the very end of the nakago appears to be " older " here's 3 pics. Milt Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 The rust on the Nakago and the damage on it gives me the idea its definetely koto, might even be earlier (bottom of Nakago suggests that too) The depth of the rust and the colouring give a clue to koto imho, thats also what i meant when i asked about the rust-condition.. i dont mean the actual suriage cut, though that also can give a clue, fresh/not fresh the suriage is a well done one without losing too much of the original blade and i think contemporary, or at least 70 odd years after the sword was forged.. a new polish would be well worth it, even though the blade looks a little tired.. a good togishi can make it look very nice again without taking too much metal off..
