Mystery Item Translation Challenge

Just received this photo from my daughter asking for a translation and when I said I'd be asked what it is she said I can't tell you, it's a surprise. She thinks it's Japanese but not sure. Now my curiosity is really peaked!  

 

Anybody up for a challenge?
