Ray Singer Posted May 24, 2020 Report Posted May 24, 2020 Wonderful, early Edo period ko-wakizashi which was clearly made to carefully emulate the works of the important Soshu smiths. Signed Echizen (no) kuni Shimosaka, which is a mei associated with shodai Yasutsugu and a small circle of other smiths working at that time. This sword, with a brilliant Soshu-den midare-ba hamon and great jigane really resembles the work of shodai Yasutsugu. If it were signed with one of his mei, I would not have been at all surprised and feel it is likely his work. The sword has been carefully made to emulate a top, early Soshu work from Nanbokucho, down to the wide and thin tsukuri-komi with mitsu-mune. This is the type of hamon which provides a long-term source of enjoyment, with much variation and internal workings to enjoy. A few coarse spots present which are shown fully in the photos, and there is a small umegane which is fully concealed by the habaki. The blade is in shirasaya and the habaki is a composite of copper (beautiful patina) and silver. Nagasa: 32.8 cm, moto-haba: 2.78 cm and kasane: 0.57cm. $2,950 (plus shipping and PayPal).
Furin Kazan Posted May 24, 2020 Report Posted May 24, 2020 Beautiful Boshi! Would you call that a taki no otoshi (滝の落し) or just an Ko-Maru (小丸)? Or neither!? Haha my inexperienced eyes can't distinguish
Furin Kazan Posted May 24, 2020 Report Posted May 24, 2020 Awesome! If I hadn't just bought another blade I would jump on this ASAP. I'll bump it for ya.
Ken-Hawaii Posted May 24, 2020 Report Posted May 24, 2020 Nice looking blade, Ray. Good photos, too - nice & bright.
Ray Singer Posted May 24, 2020 Author Report Posted May 24, 2020 Thank you all. Indeed, it is a very beautiful sword. Buying a blade of this quality, with great habaki, shirasaya, top-level polish, Tokubetsu Hozon, etc at the stated price is an opportunity, and I hope it goes to a member of our group...
Ray Singer Posted May 26, 2020 Author Report Posted May 26, 2020 I have very little room on this one but will give a small reduction to $2,900 (plus shipping and PayPal). This is a top-quality Shinto blade. Any questions, please email raymondsinger@gmail.com. Best regards, Ray
Ray Singer Posted May 31, 2020 Author Report Posted May 31, 2020 The owner agreed to one final reduction to $2,800 (plus shipping and PayPal). This is a very, very good price considering the quality. Any questions, please email raymondsinger@gmail.com. Best regards, Ray
