Ray Singer Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 Looks like Kanekiyo. Late Muromachi Mino. Very tired sword and the nakago has been abused. The sabigiwa has been obliterated and the nakago has been repatinated. Not a great target for acquisition. 2 Quote

ChrisW Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 Hey Vittorio, You seem really interested in Nihonto. As any collector here will advise you, is that you should first pick up some books/magazines on the topic. That should help you avoid costly fakes/replicas being marketed as genuine. Or you could buy from members here, the chances of being cheated here are effectively nil as we are a close community. 7 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 Buying from eBay can be a crap-shoot, even for the experienced, Vitt. The more you know, the less likely you'll get a bad deal, but it takes a lot of study to learn what to look for. The koshirae on the tanto is quite nice, but the blade itself is in bad shape, as Ray pointed out. Hit the books for awhile, & your eye will become more discriminating. There are many posts that list good books to get started. 2 Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 A good place to start is with Grey Doffin. I would recommend reaching out to locate some good primers on this subject. https://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.com/ 2 Quote
