I am a novice at this so please be kind. I have a sword that appears older, I know that this in itself does not mean anything. It has no markings. Can someone let me know if this could be authentic or just another fake. Thanks for any information you can give.

It looks to be the top section of a sword. The grooves (hi) were added after the blade was shortened. The blade is in a poor state of polish. It is difficult fo tell from the photos whether it is worth restoring. Yes it appears to be a Japanese sword of some age.

Dear ???

dont think it is a fake but it is in very poor consdition. It is unlikely it could take a polish and in its current condition you can see no detail.

So authentic in that it is Japanese (and probably old) but not of great merit

edit: sorry Barry we must have been typing at the same time (you were faster!1)

No, this is the right section, but please put your first name on every post, so we know how to address you. Easiest to do in your Profile, as you'll only have do it once.

The blade is real, but in very-poor shape. Hopefully, you haven't bought it yet. Otherwise, do your best to get your $$ back.
