Rich S Posted April 22, 2020 Report Posted April 22, 2020 All NMB users, members and casual users: Please consider making a donation to NMB. It has never charged a membership fee, but it takes money to keep it running. A lot of small donations, whatever you can afford in these harsh times, will be appreciated. A lot of small donations = monies to keep it going. That way we can all continue to enjoy and learn about Japanese swords and related topics. Thanks. Rich 5 Quote
Rich S Posted April 22, 2020 Author Report Posted April 22, 2020 Read Brian's post under Izakaya/ stimulus checks. He gives the two best ways. Also there is a link at the top of the main page that says "Donations". I'd read Brian's post first. Rich Quote
Stephen Posted April 22, 2020 Report Posted April 22, 2020 the CC goes right to his bank, PP will take a hit in fees. Brian Posted April 22, 2020 Report Posted April 22, 2020 Thanks Stephen and Rich and others. As mentioned, Paypal link is http://www.paypal.me/japaneseswords Or you can donate via Payfast, which is a SA CC processor (secure)That link is http://www.militaria.co.za/donations.htmlbut you may need to call your bank to authorize it, as SA is considered high risk for fraud. Dunno why, we are only really big into murder and robbery. Fraud is more North African Paypal is used for forum bills and can't be spent here. Too many fees to withdraw it. Payfast is used for anything local as it goes to my bank account.Always appreciated and hope everyone is doing ok. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted April 22, 2020 Report Posted April 22, 2020 I would love to contribute but I am being challenged by the available options. Passwords, security questions, exchange rates. Whatever happened to a C note in an envelop? P Quote
Rich S Posted April 22, 2020 Author Report Posted April 22, 2020 Here is a good currency converter. https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/ Edit: I didn't notice Stephen had already posted it. You can enter the amount in your currency and covert to South African Rand (near bottom of choices). Rich Quote
Brian Posted April 22, 2020 Report Posted April 22, 2020 I would love to contribute but I am being challenged by the available options. Passwords, security questions, exchange rates. Whatever happened to a C note in an envelop? P Pete, doesn't get much easier than the Paypal one then: http://www.paypal.me/japaneseswords If you are old fashioned, a C Note in an envelope sent to Stephen or Ken or one of our many other trusted members will always find its way to me somehow Quote
Rich S Posted April 22, 2020 Author Report Posted April 22, 2020 Brian Might want to add that currency converter to the "donate" dropdown. Just a thought. Rich Quote
Peter Bleed Posted April 22, 2020 Report Posted April 22, 2020 Well, dang! I thought that I'd have to drop a note to young Stephen, but I rustled thru the password list and punched in enough numbers to get some pay pal bucks sent somewhere. I even covered the Paypal Vig. Peter 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 23, 2020 Report Posted April 23, 2020 I guess you guys must have missed https://www.gofundme.com/f/send-brian-robinson-to-dti-2020. Yes, quite a few things have changed, due to the pandemic, of course, but it's also a very-easy way to send money to Brian, which he can use for NMB, even if the trip doesn't come off. You can follow the thread at http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/31297-gofundme-for-brian-send-him-to-dti-2020/. Ken Quote
Brian Posted April 23, 2020 Report Posted April 23, 2020 I have said this before, but I do need to repeat it.Paypal no longer sends the contact details of a sender, or their email address. Sometimes I only get a name, and often it doesn't match one I recognize from the forum.I do try to send a personal thanks to people for their donations, but in some cases due to this lack of contact details, or time restrains...I am not able to send out a personal thanks. And so I wish to do that here. If I have not sent you a message of thanks, please do not think me ungrateful. I REALLY appreciate every contribution, be it $5 or whatever. There have been some very generous donations and I feel terrible that I haven't said thanks properly. Please know that you have my sincere thanks and appreciation, and I take note of every single one of you. I cannot post the names here for obvious reasons. If you like, you can always include your email address in the PP notes section.Again, many thanks and best regards to each and every one of you.Brian Quote
Peter Bleed Posted April 23, 2020 Report Posted April 23, 2020 a C note in an envelope is the easiest option. Quote
Brian Posted April 23, 2020 Report Posted April 23, 2020 You say that, but your PP came through perfectly and I expect you didn't have to wrestle with it as much as you say. Thanks Peter! Quote
DanielLee Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 The gofundme didn't allow me to donate saying that donations are paused, so i sent some funds via paypal instead. Hope it helps! Quote
Brian Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 Huge thanks Daniel. Really appreciate it.I am not sure if anything changed, but I see donations are not allowed unless an NPO...so I changed the title to Nihonto Message Board Payment. If anyone does a payment, don't mention donation. Just payment for service.I'll have to wait for someone to try it to know if it works. If not, a screen cap of the error would be appreciated. Quote
jeremy Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 Gofundme didn't work for me either. Sent some cash your way via PayPal. Jeremy 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 Jeremy, what about GoFundMe doesn't work?? I haven't had any problems with it, so please let me know. Quote
Surfson Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 Just chipped in via paypal and Brian's Donate link on the top of the page. Thanks for all of the great work that you do on our behalf, Brian. Cheers, Bob Quote
jeremy Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 This is what comes up when it comes to the end part of trying to donate. Quote
Brian Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 Ah, I was thinking it was the CC donations via Payfast.I see you are talking about the GoFundme. Ken...can you look into that? Thanks. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 27, 2020 Report Posted April 27, 2020 I've received absolutely nothing from GFM, Brian. A few weeks ago, they wanted me to set up a bank account to transfer the funds, by 5/25, & I had that done the same day. Let me send them an e-mail to figure out what's happening. Thanks to Jeremy for that input! Quote
