Bruce Pennington Posted January 30, 2023 Report Posted January 30, 2023 Could post this on the Mantetsu Survey thread, too, but since there aren't that many Mantetsu on file with the MRS fittings, I thought this would be a good place to post. Got the privilege of examining this one personally. Thanks Erns! @Stegel A Spring 1944 Mantetsu, with MRS fittings, double stamp "連工"; serial セ 2521. It has ivory or plastic (after removing them for photos, I think they are plastic) items in the ito, like menugi. Awaiting translation from the Translation Assistance guys. 2 1 1 Quote

The guys on the Translation forum said they came from some sort of phone or communication equipment. Maybe a field radio? I'll post them on Warrelics. They seem to have a bunch of guys that collect that kind of equipment. BTW, do you know what is meant by "fiber power supply"? Quote
Kiipu Posted January 30, 2023 Report Posted January 30, 2023 Thanks to Trystan who transcribed the characters above, I was able to find the following information. 接 = setsu = on, on-position, of switch. 受聽器 = juchōki = earphones, headphones. 纖條電源 = senjō dengen = filament supply. A related term would be senjō dengen hen-atsuki 纖條電源變壓器 [filament supply transformer]. Source: United States, War Department. Japanese-English Technical Terms Dictionary. TM 30-482, November 1946. I don't know anything about WWII electronic equipment. Can't picture what device would use "filaments". If someone here at NMB doesn't pop in with an answer by tomorrow, I'll run it by the Warrelics collectors. Thanks Thomas & Trystan! Quote

vajo Posted January 30, 2023 Report Posted January 30, 2023 The Japanese soldier are the filament for the emperor. The supply is going to infinity. https://www.kurabo.co.jp/english/kurabo-history/ Maybe that was from textile machinery? Quote

At first glance, I thought it was black, but in good light you can see it is a dark, dark green. The ito seems to be a very dark grey, or light black. Quote

Conway S Posted April 24, 2024 Report Posted April 24, 2024 Greetings, I thought I'd post one of my recent acquisitions. Perhaps in the same way colorful snakes scare potential predators away with bright colors, this parachute chord wrap scared potential bidders away. The wood core is original, but the same is gone. I'll hopefully send it off to get rewrapped soon. @Bruce Pennington thanks for referencing the hiragana "I" in your previous post. The mune is stamped い 八八.The tsuba is stamped 7 80 and the fuchi has a faint 4 on the release button prong. Conway Quote
