ChrisW Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Are we allowed to know who did the work? 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 May I say 'wow'? PS Faint remains of a Mei there, or am I dreaming? 2 Quote
Gunome Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Hello Chris, Thanks to share it. What a difference between the "before" and "after" !?! Very nice restauration ! 1 Quote
vajo Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 Thanks all. These a only "scratches", no mei. The restauration was made from a well known member here in the board, but he didn't want to tell who he was, because his work list is to long. Quote
Kurikata Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Chris, really you had an eagle eye to purchase this tsuba. Final result is amazing! 1 Quote
vajo Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 Thanks Bruno. I loved the motif. It would be sad not to try it to have it restored. 1 Quote
Gunome Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 We are early April. A "spring tsuba" with the birds 1 Quote
DRDave Posted April 9, 2020 Report Posted April 9, 2020 I would not have thought it possible. Did you get a photo before you received it back or did you have to pick yourself up off the floor when you opened the box? 1 Quote
Alex A Posted April 9, 2020 Report Posted April 9, 2020 Nice one Chris, good to see another restored. 1 Quote
vajo Posted April 9, 2020 Author Report Posted April 9, 2020 Thanks Alex. Whether it was financially worthwhile is another matter. So i hope that this is not a good example to follow, espacially for new collectors. I spare a little by not to restore the fire gilding. That would be to much investing. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 9, 2020 Report Posted April 9, 2020 Like the others, I'm truly amazed at the restoration, Chris. Can you give a range of the cost, compared to a togi's polishing? Quote
vajo Posted April 9, 2020 Author Report Posted April 9, 2020 Oh thats hard Ken. I gave 4 Tsuba to restore and we made a package price. So i can't tell you how much this tsuba was. The others were kinko and to of them gets a lot of hours of care. The best is you ask. Normal work on patination is around 200 Dollar i think more or less. But with extra wishes it goes up. What i learned is that there is a lot of work in patination. Quote
