Ken-Hawaii Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 I'm not familiar with this workmanship, & would appreciate ideas. Quote
Brian Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Mino Hippy? Looks like a tsuba-shi discovered acid. 2 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 That's exactly what I thought, Brian! It's wakizashi-size, too, & he seemed to be cramming as much onto the surface as he could get. Wait until you see how much he's asking for it, papered or not! https://www.ebay.com/itm/TSUBA-Japanese-Sword-guard-credibility-genuine-Antique-Original-limited-Kikka/114176467435 Hope someone will read the kanteisho. Shugyosha Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Papers give it to Kyo kinko. Pretty naff though. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 Naff? I've heard someone say to "naff off," but figure it's not nice. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 Sounds useful. Wonder why we don't have it in the U.S.? BTW, thanks for the translation, John. Doesn't look like any Kyo-Kinko I've ever seen, either. Quote
Spartancrest Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 Just checked his site - all his gear, and some of it very nice, is eye wateringly priced ! Out of my league. https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=hirotakahori&item=114176467435&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC1.A0.H0.Xtsuba.TRS1&_nkw=tsuba&_sacat=0 Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 Probably selling better than ornate tsuba right now! Quote
Kanenaga Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 A couple more for your enjoyment. NTHK attribution to Mino. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 8, 2020 Author Report Posted April 8, 2020 Nice pair, & probably priced less than the one I posted. Quote

Spartancrest Posted April 9, 2020 Report Posted April 9, 2020 In Australia it's 'dodgy' or 'a bit dodgy', there is a gradient ! 1 Quote

In England we use dodgy to mean something or someone unreliable or suspicious So in Aus would dodgy mean naff too? Also, here, 'a bit' is often a polite was of saying 'very'. ???? Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted April 9, 2020 Author Report Posted April 9, 2020 I guess every country has its own words to describe people. I had a friend spend a week with us from Sweden, & I probably asked him a dozen times just what he meant. But carry on with some more additions! Quote
