Hii

Can anyone help me point this out on an armor (do).

The character is big on Japanese or? Is it a mon and if so what clan is it ..

Robert, Small heraldic badges are not uncommon on armour, often across the front below the mune-ita or on the bottom row of sode, shikoro and gessan.

Yes,

it’s an “ogi” (folding fan) paired with the character for “dai” (or “o”, used by the “Okubo” for example).

Can’t find a match in my references, sry....

Good afternoon Gentlemen,

If it were a Kamon, then I would hazard: Gohon Bone Ougi Ni Dai no Ji (five staved fan with the kanji character "Dai").

What say you Piers old bean?

Hi Malcolm,

I think the number of sticks are spared out in the description of this mon. Hence, no “gohon bone”....

In one of my references is merely a notation, that the fan of the “Satake” bears 5 “ribs”. Maybe I’m wrong, as so often  ;-)

Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting the image, but it looks like a 8 stave fan without any kanji.

I guess it would be called "Hachihon Bone Ougi".

:)
