Steffieeee Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 Hi guys, does anyone know what these nicks in the edge of the nagako are? they are very regular and deliberate. I think it's an old piece and the markings are old too. Maybe its something as simple as making the tsuka non moving or something.. The blade has a few nicks from sword blades in it too Quote
Brian Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 Nicks appear on many swords just like that. I have never heard a suitable explanation for them, but kinda assumed they were to mark a blade that was intended for a certain process or koshirae. An easy way for the smith to keep track of that particular blade. Maybe when having fittings made? Quote
Nickupero Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 Sorry, saw the title and thought I was being called out Agree with Brian, I've seen some very large ones, some spaced out some closer together. 1 Quote
