rkg Posted February 28, 2020 Report Posted February 28, 2020 Hi, Its that time of year again.... I have 8 tsuba for sale, which I'll break up into several listings due to file attachment constraints. Prices are in USD. All prices are net to me and do not include shipping (which will be at actual cost) and any applicable transaction (preypal) fees. Tsuba #1: Cupped Umetada, $395 This Iron piece measures 77.3mm (H) X 72,5mm (T) X 3.56mm (T, seppa area), 8.13mm (T, max, mimi), and weighs 154.9g. The piece is decorated with gold nunome zougan in grass/mon patterns. The kozuka/kogai hitsu are lined with patinated copper. The plate is folded, as can be seen from the mimi and the nakago ana. There are a number of ware visible in the mimi (see 360 image sets). The piece has NBTHK Hozon papers attributing it as Umetada group work. Comes with box. Below are links to 360-degree views as well as full size images of the piece. Please study them carefully and ask any questions you might have before deciding to purchase the piece. http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/cupped_umetada_front/cupped_umetada_front.html http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/cupped_umetada_back/cupped_umetada_back.html http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/cupped_umetada_edge/cupped_umetada_edge.html http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/_DSC9012.jpg http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/_DSC9017.jpg http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/cupped_umetada_front_scale.jpg http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/cupped_umetada_tsuba/hozon_paper__for_cupped_umetada.jpg Tsuba #2: Modern katchushi tsuba: $25 HOLD This iron (steel?) piece measures 75.1mm (H) X 76.2mm (W) X 3.56mm (T), and weighs 78.6g. The theme is bamboo stalks/leaves. Most of you know my story on this. It was sold to me as old, but too late I realized that the piece had been cleverly doctored with several layers of wax. The wax was removed, revealing this piece. Below are links to 360-degree views as well as full size images of the piece. Please study them carefully and ask any questions you might have before deciding to purchase the piece. http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/modern_bamboo_katchushi/modern_bamboo_katchushi_front/modern_bamboo_katchushi_front.html http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/modern_bamboo_katchushi/modern_bamboo_katchushi_back/modern_bamboo_katchushi_back.html http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/modern_bamboo_katchushi/_DSC7596.jpg http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/modern_bamboo_katchushi/_DSC7598.jpg http://www.rkgphotos.com/sale_stuff/sale_stuff_2020_2/modern_bamboo_katchushi/bamboo_utushi_scale.jpg Please contact me at rkg@rkgphotos.com or via PM if interested. Thanks for looking, rkg (Richard George)
rkg Posted February 28, 2020 Author Report Posted February 28, 2020 Tsuba 2 is on hold. thanks for your interest, rkg (Richard George)
vajo Posted February 28, 2020 Report Posted February 28, 2020 Tsuba 2 is a nice "modern" one for mounting on a chinese t-10 blade. Perfect! Thanks Richard.
Peter Bleed Posted February 28, 2020 Report Posted February 28, 2020 Most of you know my story on this. Richard, I don't wish to revisit a negative story, BUT I don't "know this story" and thsi guard looks way too good to be merely mounted on a Chinese repro sword. Please, walk me thru this one.... Peter

Richard, I don't wish to revisit a negative story, BUT I don't "know this story" and thsi guard looks way too good to be merely mounted on a Chinese repro sword. Please, walk me thru this one.... Peter Peter, I posted some before/after images as well as a micro photograph of the fake surface back in this thread: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/30098-a-tale-of-2-owari-or-not/?hl=owari I think I'm up to having seen images of 3 of these now. I kind of assume they were made for iai or something, as they really aren't bad/look like the real deal unless you look very closely. There are actually a lot of mass produced tsuba out there with varying degrees of quality. This has actually been the hardest part about finding some dragon themed tsuba - I can't believe how many pieces are what appear to be (usually cast?) copies of varying degrees of quality. Wow, I just threadjacked myself :-) Best, rkg (Richard George)
Peter Bleed Posted February 29, 2020 Report Posted February 29, 2020 Richard, Thanks for reposting this discussion. It had been off my radar. The "Shinsaku" tsubas shown on the Tsubayugen page are very interesitng. I confess that I have played at "replicating" tsuba. In fact, I have even presented those efforts here on NMB. I find this all right, even informative.Misrepresenting stuff is the the sin. Peter
rkg Posted February 29, 2020 Author Report Posted February 29, 2020 Tsuba #1 (the cupped umetada piece) is on hold. Thanks for your interest, best, rkg (Richard George)
