Steffieeee Posted February 27, 2020 Report Posted February 27, 2020 Hi can anyone tell me about this tsuba didn't realise it had a faint signature when I bought it. I liked it because it didn't have any Ana holes. It's very smooth with chamfered edges. I like it because it's simple 1 Quote
C0D Posted February 27, 2020 Report Posted February 27, 2020 It's a nice tosho tsuba from Edo period, the mei seems to me to be Shigetsugu 重次 (btw the picture is upside down) Quote
Steffieeee Posted February 27, 2020 Author Report Posted February 27, 2020 Thanks! Yes I realised that after I'd posted it sorry. How can you tell it's Edo and not earlier? Quote
C0D Posted February 27, 2020 Report Posted February 27, 2020 The design is more refined and also older pieces were not signed Quote
Steffieeee Posted February 27, 2020 Author Report Posted February 27, 2020 Interesting ty. So the maker here was probably also a swordsmith is that right? That's what tosho seems to mean Quote
C0D Posted February 27, 2020 Report Posted February 27, 2020 Tosho tsuba originally it's thought they were actually made by swordsmith, in Edo period still some swordshimth made some tsuba but mainly those in "tosho style" were made by tsubashi Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted February 27, 2020 Report Posted February 27, 2020 Stef, there were (& are) many tsubashi who weren't sword tosho. I don't think yours was a tosho, & thee's a short blurb on the Inagawa School on http://world.choshuya.co.jp/tousougu/index.htm Quote
C0D Posted February 27, 2020 Report Posted February 27, 2020 Here's a previous topic with a tsuba signed shigetsugu and similar design http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/21236-two-mei-help/page-1 Quote
